Achievements in Malawi

Malawi Orphan and Community Project

 

Working with Joshua Orphan and Community Care Quest4Change helps provide a safe and secure living environment for orphans, vulnerable children and their families in the Pen Sulo district of Malawi.

A snapshot of our achievements

  • Built 24x18m Maternity Clinic in the Pen Sulo community, with waiting shelters, housing for doctors and nurses: giving the community access to antenatal & postnatal care, HIV/AIDs advice, outpatient services and a pharmacy.
  • Built clinic house for doctors and nurses, waiting area & guardian shelter for Clinic.
  • Constructed 2 Orphan Care feeding centres, in Kachumbe and Kumwandika.
  • Constructed 2 (2 classroom) schools.
  • Plastered, painted and constructed the floor, doors and windows of classroom.
  • Gutted an existing pre primary school, and then re-plastered, painted and decorated it inside and out, as well as replacing the roof.
  • Renovated 2 small community owned businesses (sewing centre and bakery) and funded business and accountancy training for co-operative owners.
  • Spent over 1,500 hours assisting at Mary's Meals feeding centres
  • Sponsored 61 children through 5 years of secondary education.
  • Coordinated HIV Awareness Day for local community, national TV, radio and government officials.
  • Worked with Pensulo Scout group, teaching first aid, sign language, dance & theatre, as well as fixing local people's roofs.
  • Organised several tree planting days with members of the local community.
  • Renovated a community educational resource centre, including designing and painted several murals, furnishing with tables, chairs & shelving.
  • Constructed outdoor 'play centre' for Pen Sulo community orphans.
