Bolivia Animal Sanctuary Project

This project protects, rehabilitates and where possible re- releases animals that have previously been kept in human captivity.

History
Quest joined forces with Juan Carlos, founder and Director of Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi, in 2003, intent to help the organisation in its mission to "defend our brothers the trees and animals". Four years on and the relationships has blossomed with Quest providing the funding to purchase the essential rainforest necessary for the project to survive..
Objectives
Quest and the Quest Charitable Trust helps to provide the Bolivian NGO “Inti Wara Yassi”, with much needed year round financial and volunteer support to care for and rehabilitate over 1000 abused and wild animals in the Bolivian Amazon basin. The aims are to ensure that enough cages are built and maintained to safely house all of the animals and to provide them with the utmost freedom possible (where rehabilitation is not possible).
Achievements
  • Purchased 600 hectares of an 800 hectare plot of rainforest to create a new animal sanctuary
  • Sponsored 1000 acres of rainforest through partners Rainforest Concern
  • Built seven large animal enclosures and cages
  • Spent over 10,000 hours working with and caring for animals
  • Donation for medical supplies for the veterinary clinic
  • Renovation of the volunteer accommodation
  • Began construction of a new veterinary clinic
Future Plans
With newly rescued animals arriving at the park every day, there is always a need for resources, both in the form of financial support and volunteer workers. In particular new cages and enclosures need to be built if the sanctuary is to ensure the highest quality of life possible for the wild cats, which usually cannot be rehabilitated. There are also plans to increase the amount of involvement that the park has with the local community, through community driven initiatives and working specifically with schools and young people.
