Rio Carnival and Community Project

This project supports local children from the Mangueira favela, providing them with new opportunities.

History
After forging initial links in 2004 with various visits and planning following this, Quest began working with the Mangueira Social Project in 2006. Two teams of volunteers from Quest Overseas have since visited and supported the project, fitting in with the hectic Rio Carnival schedule.

Achievements
  • Provided 100s of hours of care and support for the children of Casa Lar; Created of a sensory room for the children
  • Provided 100s of hours assistance in sports and arts classes
  • Donated clothes, medicines, beds and cooking equipment for Casa Lar
  • Supported local children to attend in Rio Carnival
  • Co-ordinated days out for disadvantaged children

Future Plans
The Quest Charitable Trust will continue to support the Mangueira Social Project during the busy Rio Carnival period, with donations going to where they are needed most – the under-funded ‘Casa Lar’ home for boys with special needs. Following this year’s successes Quest will further develop activities with Tia Neuma Infant School.
