Caring for injured animals in the Bolivian Amazon

Working with Inti Wara Yassi this project protects, rehabilitates, and where possible re-releases into the wild animals that have been rescued from ill treatment and inhumane captivity.Country Profile - Bolivia

What's the problem?

Animals in Bolivia are often kept illegally, exotic animals are traded on the black market with little care as to their well being, they have often been abused which can result in permanent disabilities meaning that they would die without our help.

Jon talks about Ambue Ari and the essential need for a buffer zone around the park:

How Quest4Change helps

We have been working with Inti Wara Yassi since 2003, providing much needed financial and volunteer support. Volunteers have spent thousands of man hours caring for, feeding and rehabilitating 1,000s of rescued animals from Monkeys to Pumas. When re-release into the wild is not a possibility our aim is to make their lives as comfortable as possible through the construction of bespoke cages.

“Building cages in Jacj Cuisi felt very worthwhile, especially after getting to meet the animals in Machia.”                 Chris Bentley, Volunteer Bolivia 2009

The Year of the Puma!  The Quest volunteers of 2011 achieved a lot this year.  At the start of the year, the Gap 1 team gamely struggled on in some terrible weather in Jacq Cuisi, completing a large enclosure for Sacha the puma.   The second lot of Quest volunteers also did a fantastic job on two puma enclosures fro Simba and Lucy.  Yet more puma enclosure construction for the Summer team, this time for two newly rescued baby pumas - no, we don't have any piuctures yet, sorry!

In other news, nearly £700 has been raised with our Popular the Jaguar appeal - soon he'll have a new home.

How you can help

  • Be a Secret Millionaire for this project, don't worry, you don't have to be an actual millionaire to help out!

Sponsor at Monkey with Quest4Change and Inti Wara Yassi in Bolivia

£60 helps to support a Monkey in Parque Machia for a year.

Why sponsor a Monkey? Support a monkey in Bolivia

All the monkeys have been rescued from the illegal pet trade.
The illegal pet trade is huge, second only to the illegal drug trade in Bolivia.
Your support will help provide food, safe shelter, medical care and vaccinations.
Your support will give your monkey the best life possible.

You will receive a personalised gift card thanking you for your support and regular e-mails throughout the year letting you know what is being achieved with your help.  If it's a gift this can be personalised and sent directly to the recipient.  Contact Rose to find out more.
