Chile Conservation Project
This project seeks to protect the endangered forests and wildlife of the Chilean Lake District.
Through the continuing link between Rainforest Concern and Quest this project has been running since 2005. The project works with Chilean NGO Parques Para Chile with expertise from the Macauley Institute. Funding is provided by the UK government through the Darwin Initiative.
Objectives
The main purpose of the project is to establish partnerships to promote the creation of wildlife corridors that connect areas of temperate rainforest in the Chilean Lake District. Through scientific research and volunteer support, biodiversity information will be used to provide a framework for prioritising conservation and management plans from a local to international level.
- Initial survey work carried out to assess mammal populations in area

Quest will be working closely with the recently opened Centre for Biodiversity in Pichares to help conserve the unique wildlife and plant species in the area. By assisting local research students and international scientists, volunteers through Quest Overseas and Quest Sabbaticals will carry out bird and animal species surveys, promote environmental education in local schools, and build and maintain trails within existing protected areas.
